We have proposed determination procedure of the relative amounts of rust constituents of steel. Mossbauer spectroscopy provides the relative amounts of crystalline rust constituents including ultra-fine crystals. A quantitative analysis of ultra-fine crystals is possible with the resolution of several percent by comparing the Mossbauer results with the relative amounts of rust constituents determined by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy

8一12　－10　－8　　－6　　－4　　－2　　0　　2　　4　　　6　　8　　10　　12　　　　　　Relative　Velocity，7／皿m・s一［Fig．1　Scattering（a）and　transmission（b），（c）M6ssbauerspectra　of　the　rust　layer　forrned　on　the　weathering　steel　ex－posed　in　Saylorsburg，　Pa．　for　16　years．能であるため，βx，γx，！職はそれぞれの真の質量：割合β，γ，Mを示す．一方，αxにはGoethite（m）が主として反映される．真のゲーサイト質量割合αを求めるには，Goethite（s1，s2）のUFGをさらに考慮する必要がある．上述のγ＝γxを考慮すると，　　　　　　　　　α＝αM・γx／γM　　　　　　（1）と関係づけられる．式（1）により得られたα，β，γ，Mおよび本質的に原子配列に短範囲の周期性のみを有する非晶質物質の定量結果を，Table　1（c）に示す．　XRAの大部分はUFGであることがおかる．　Fig．2に示すように，　Crを含む耐候性鋼のさび層主要構成物質が，暴露期間と共にγ一FeOOHからXRAを経て最終安定状態のCr－FGへ変化することが知られている6）．この相変化と共にαx／γxが増加し，αx／γx＞2の領域で腐食速度が極めて低下することが指摘されている9・12・13）．αx／γx＞2の領域をFig．2に影付きで示すと，　XRAが最も多い時期からCr－FGが増加する時期に一致する．すなわち，さび層が最終安定状態になる前に，γ一FeOOHの減少が停止した段階で腐食速度は低下する．これは，前述したXRAの主体がUFGであることに関連すると考えられる．耐候性鋼さび層中のUFGはCr－UFGであることが指摘されており14），前述のγ一FeOOH→XRA→Cr－FGの変化6＞は，本研究の結果からγ一FeOOH→Cr－UFG→Cr－FGとなる．すなわち，　Cr－FGが主体となる前段階でCr－UFGが生成しXRAの主体となる時期から，耐候性鋼の腐食速度は低下し始めると結論される。4．結
