One of the most exciting aspects of being at a new school is the many “firsts” that we get to celebrate and today we get to celebrate the launch of CRMJ!  This new scholarly journal is student-driven, partially student-run and faculty-supervised. Its peer-reviewed articles include up-to-date research first-authored by current medical students, allied health students, and medical residents and fellows.  The CRMJ was initiated last year by CMSRU clinical faculty and medical students who sought to create a peer-reviewed journal that could publish student research from around the globe. With leadership and guidance from CMSRU’s medical library staff and physician-scientist faculty, our medical students were able to make this journal a reality. I am proud to announce that the CRMJ has published its first several manuscripts.  At CMSRU, we are committed to educating students who understand the importance of evidence-based medicine, scholarly research, and lifelong learning. These principles are enshrined in our school’s mission and core values, and were built into the curriculum through the “Scholars Workshop,” a four-year course that requires our students to develop and carry out a long-term project of scholarly investigation that results in a capstone project.  Engaging medical students and other medical professionals in the research process and providing a platform for publishing their work helps reinforce vital critical thinking skills while laying the groundwork for successful futures in academic medicine.
