I· HOLMES, JOHN S. File No. -e,-SSa John a. Holmes was born May 15, 1865, in Illinois and was there reared and eduoated. About 1883 Jol;l.n was married .to Carrie Taylor at Dearborn, Illinois. They continued their residence there until 1910, when theyaMn~ to Saint Cloud. Here John was employed by the Great Northern Railway Company until 1927 at whieh time he retired. John and Carrie (Taylor) Holmes were the parents of four children, Hazel, Sophia Beatrice, Louis, and Oscar. Hazel is dead. Sophia Beat-rice now makes her home in Saint Cloud. Louis is married to Ellen Yager, daughter of Adam and Cathe~ine (Bertzberger) Yager. Louis and Ellen (Yager) Holmes have two children. Oscar is employed by the Fritz Cross Company in Saint Cloud. John Holmes was a jolly soul, a liker of good living, and a teller of good stories. He was a true optimist, and having so full a measure of cheer himself, he desired that everyone around him should be happy and contented. He died March 24, 1932. Mrs. Carrie (Taylor) Holmes died May 9, 1936. Both are buried in North Star Cemetery, Saint Cloud. Interviewed: Louis & Ellen (Yager) .
