Black Femininity and Masculinity and its Relation to Sexuality in Spike Lee\u27s She\u27s Gotta Have It

Abstract

Spike Lee\u27s 1986 American Film She\u27s Gotta Have It challenges the stereotypical portrayal of Black feminity and masculinity by portraying a wide variety of expressions in sexuality. My approach will be to look at how race and sexuality impact the characters in the movie and Lee comments on the actual world today. The intersectionality of race and sexuality is highly prevalent in the movie and will be explored in my research. My thesis is Spike Lee uses the intersectionality of race and sexuality to critic the stereotypical roles of femininity and masculinity
