Abstract

The US.Government's decision to turn over the sovereignty of the Diaoyu Islands to Japan led to a patriotic movement, namely the Bao-Diao movement, among the Chinese students in North America.Relying on the historical materials housed in Tsinghua University Libraries in Beijing and Taiwan, the author has made an attempt to dissect the movement in terms of the backgrounds of its participants, the cause for its inevitable split between the lefts and the rights, the driving force that developed the movement into the China unification movement, and the achievements it attained
