Diplomska naloga se posveča prikazovanju resničnosti v turškem romanu Ime mi je Rdeča (Benim Adim Kirmizi, 1998) Orhana Pamuka. Na delo, nastalo med Vzhodom in Zahodom, poskuša aplicirati koncept mimesis, izhajajoč iz starogrške filozofije. V grobem sta predstavljeni vodilni opredelitvi mimesis, najprej Platonova in nato Aristotelova. Ko je pojem za silo utrjen, ga prenesem na področje literarne vede. Predstavim metodologijo Ericha Auerbacha, ki je skozi književna dela pojasnjeval duhovnozgodovinski kontekst, v katerem so nastala. Nastopijo vprašanja o slogu in obsegu prikazane stvarnosti ter pomisleki o verodostojnosti Pamukove verzije realnosti. Pri opazovanju načina reprezentiranja sveta v danem romanu mi je v pomoč teorija W. J. T. Mitchella. Pozornost je v glavnem usmerjena k taktikam, s katerimi je Pamuk obudil daljno obdobje turške zgodovine in obenem razkril naravo svoje sodobnosti.The thesis discusses the problem of representing reality in Orhan Pamuk\u27s novel My name is Red (Benim Adim Kirmizi, 1998). The theory of mimesis is applied to the contemporary piece of writing which arose between East and West. Since the concept of mimesis originates in philosophy of ancient Greeks, I firstly introduce two main definitions of the term by Plato and Aristotle. They could be applied to the literary field taking into consideration methodology by Erich Auerbach who explained the historical era through work(s) of literature created at a specific time. Questions of style are not avoided. The scope of represented reality goes hand in hand with some doubts about Pamuk\u27s credibility. W. J. T. Mitchell’s theory helps to understand author\u27s manner of presenting the world in My name is Red. Ultimately, the main interest lies in the strategies of novelist\u27s writing that revived a period of Turkish history and reviewed the essence of writer’s own modernity at the same time
