The long-term impact that the Covid-19, regardless of mortality, has on nutrition and community health is important. These effects can change the nutritional behavior and lifestyle of survivors. Therefore, it is assumed that this period of sudden pandemic, due to its possible consequences such as fear, will change the motivations for choosing food and the process of buying and consuming food. This can ultimately affect the diversity of the community diet. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between fear caused by Covid-19 with food choice motives and diet diversity of people living in Qazvin city. Secondly, how these relationships have changed for the better or for the worse is a topic that has not yet been studied in Iran and can be examined. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted in both online and face-to-face surveys. The way of access to people and the place of research was health centers of qazvin city and the study population included 336 adults living in Qazvin aged 18 to 65 years. Data were collected in 4 sections using valid questionnaires. "Demographic Questionnaire", "FCV-19S" and "Food Choice Questionnaire" were used to collect and assess Demographic information, level of fear caused by Covid-19 and food choice motivations, respectively. To assess the diversity of diet, the diversity section of the "Diet Quality Index - International" questionnaire was used. Finally, due to the optionality of cooperation, individuals entered the study by completing questionnaires after being informed of the aims and method of conducting the study and ensuring the confidentiality of information. After completing the sample size, the data were entered into Excel software in a categorized manner and finally the required statistical analyzes were performed with R software. In order to determine the effect of independent variables on dependent variables, analysis of variance and linear regression methods were used. Significance level in this study was considered less than five percent (P < 0.05). Results: The mean score of fear of Covid-19 in the study population was 15.25 ± 5.78. Price, Mood, Natural content, Familiarity, Convenience and Ethical concerns were significantly and positively associated with fear of Covid-19 (P <0.05). Diet diversity and fear of Covid-19 were not significantly correlated. The only food motivation that was significantly different during the Covid-19 than before was Health, which increased (P <0.05). The most important motivations for food choices for both before and during the Covid-19 were Sensory appeal and Health. The Ethical concern was the least important among food motivations. Consumption and choice of grains, legumes, dairy products, poultry and fish during the Covid-19 had a significant decrease compared to before (P <0.05). But the epidemic did not cause a significant difference in the score of diet diversity-total and food groups-total compared to before. However, the score of protein sources-total decreased significantly during the period of Covid-19 compared to before (P <0.05). Finally, the findings of this study did not show a significant difference between food motivations and diet diversity. Conclusion: Some food motivations were associated with Covid-19 fear, which may be due to their psychological nature. But fear of Covid-19 was not associated with diet diversity. The increasing importance of the Health factor and Natural content in food 5 motivations can be due to the advice of experts on the importance of eating healthy food to counteract Covid-19, and indicate the importance of people to these trainings. For most studies, putting the Sensory appeal in the first place, both before and during the Covid-19, shows the importance of packaging and appearance for people under different circumstances.. The lack of change in the score of diet diversity-total during Covid-19, as well as the lack of correlation between fear of Covid-19 and diet diversity, may indicate the fact that eating behaviors and habits are stable in adulthood. Conducting similar studies to investigate the relationship between Covid-19 fear with food choice motives and diet diversity will allow comparison and, if possible, generalization of the results or rejection of hypotheses.
