Empoderamento e educação na cultura digital

Abstract

Faced with the gap between school and digital culture, it comes to relevance the research in education that seeks to explore, from a critical perspective, the potential of the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) in education. This article presents a critical review of the literature in the field of media-education studies, trying to identify and understand spaces of possibility for citizens' empowerment in technology-mediated education. Through a historical analysis of education, the study can point out some challenges of contemporary education, such as the protagonist students' role to define the questions and also their paths to answer them, or the distinguished role of the teacher. The thesis defended is that spaces of possibility for critical education can be identified in digital networks, if it is provided, simultaneously, the individual and the social dimension of empowerment. The bet is that there arises a new political activism in social networks that can help vitalize the civic culture, which has a relevant role for citizenship in digital culture. As a result of the reflection, it is indicated the interconnection between singular and universal, private and collective, which can occur if the emphasis is placed on the synergy between individual and social empowerment as the urgent demand of education with, for and through media
