Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli tutkia motiivia vapaaehtoistyöhön tamperelaisessa englanninkielisessä jumalanpalvelusyhteisössä. Aineisto kerättiin haastattelemalla jumalanpalvelusyhteisössä vapaaehtoistyötä tehneitä. Haastateltavat pyrittiin valitsemaan siten, että joukko olisi heterogeeninen.
Haastatteluista ja muistiinpanoista poimittiin vapaaehtoistoiminnan motivaatioon liittyviä asioita ja sanoja, jotka ryhmiteltiin erilaisia motivaatioita ilmaiseviin ryhmiin sisällönanalyysin avulla. Esiin nousseita asioita peilattiin motivaatioteoriaan ja erityisesti vapaaehtoistyön motivaation teoriaan.
Pääasialliseksi motivaatioperusteeksi tutkimuksessa nousi uskonnollinen va-kaumus. Tutkimusympäristönä olleen jumalanpalvelusyhteisön osallisuuden ilmapiiri osoittautui myös tärkeäksi tekijäksi haastateltujen motivaatiolle.
Yhteisön erityinen monikulttuurinen ilmapiiri ja hengellinen elämä yhdistyneenä kansainväliseksi jumalanpalvelusyhteisöksi on sen jäsenten toimintamotivaation perusta.ABSTRACT

The aim of the thesis was to study the motivation of those who do voluntary work for the community of the Tampere English Service. The data consist of interviews of people, who had done voluntary work for the worship community. An effort was made to choose the interviewees so that they would be a heterogeneous group.
Words and phrases concerning motivation to do voluntary work were picked out of the interviews and notes. Then they were grouped into categories of different types of motivation using content analysis. The issues that stood out were then considered from the perspective of the motivation theory and especially from the perspective of motivation theory for voluntary work.
In the research, the main foundation for motivation was religious conviction. In addition, the worship community that was used as the research environment in this study had an atmosphere of belonging. The importance of being part of this community was another significant factor in the interviewees’ motivation.
The multicultural atmosphere paired with the spiritual life of this community to-gether form the international worship community. It is the nature of this worship community that serves as the foundation for the members’ motivation to do vo-luntary work
