A Study of the Difficulties Encountered by Beginning Teachers in Certain Selected Negro Schools of Texas

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to collect the specific difficulties encountered by beginning teachers teaching in certain selected Negro schools of Texas. The solving of this problem is dependent upon finding the answers to the following questions: 1. Can beginning teachers meet with their supervisors and talk over any problems which may hinder the teacher in doing an effective teaching job? 2. What are the problems experienced in the classroom by the beginning teachers with the pupils? 3. Do these teachers feel restricted in their personal activities by community and administrative rules? 4. Are these teachers using professional books as aids in trying to solve their problems? 5. What is the health status of these teachers? 6. Are these teachers adjusting to their teaching loads, co-workers, and administrative procedures within the school? It seemed advisable at the outset to limit this study to the difficulties encountered during the first two years of teaching experience, because those studies surveyed at the time the present study was in process related to difficulties encountered within that period of teaching
