Vehicle Modification Resources for Families of Tucker’s HouseHeather Ribolla, OTD/SFaculty Mentor: Dr. Teresa Plummer, PhD, OTR/L, CAPS, CEAS, ATPExpert Mentor: Sandra Zaccari, PT, Therapy CoordinatorTucker’s House Capstone Outcomes Capstone Goals Identified Needs Acknowledgments• Tucker's House is a nonprofit providing construction, retrofitting, and home accessibility services for families of children with disabilities• Mission: To create safer, more accessible homes and environments for children and young adults with disabilities• Vision: For every child with disabilities to feel at home• Compiling resources for the funding and procurement of accessible vehicles • Creating a resource for the creation of sensory rooms • Recommending evidence based home modifications • Assistance with post project assessments to assess client satisfaction with home modifications and DME• Completed home assessments under the supervision of a licensed PT and made home modification recommendations • Created a resource packet including grants/funding resources for adaptive vehicles, vendors in TN, low cost adaptations, car seat and driver evaluations, and safety tips for transportation• Created resource sheets for sensory rooms• Added to durable medical equipment resource lists for homes• Filmed videos that demonstrate proper body mechanics for vehicle transfers and loading equipment• Gain a better understanding of the lived experience of childrenwith disabilities and their families• Create a deliverable that can benefit Tucker’s House families looking to make their vehicle accessible • Organize and lead an IPE event for OT, PT, and interior design • Consult with interior design students on the creation of an OT pediatric clinic space• Assist with the construction of Tucker’s House projects• Complete online training to obtain International Society of Wheelchair Professionals wheelchair certification• Attend training to become a CarFit Certified Technician and volunteer in a CarFit event• I would like to thank my expert mentor, Sandra Zaccari, for her insights, time, knowledge, and support• Thank you to my faculty mentor, Teresa Plummer, for providing me with encouragement, guidance, and wisdom• Thank you Tucker’s House families for sharing your stories andallowing us to learn and grow togetherReferences available upon requestBefore Bathroom Accessible DesignWall LiftTeaching Body Mechanics for Vehicle Transfers and Loading EquipmentGrace
