In the keen interest of enhancing relations and cooperation between the libraries of the Universities of Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates with the academic and cultural institutions of the UAE.  For providing an effective access to the scholarly information resources available in both university libraries with the best services to their users, and for developing their library staff professionally. The Library of the University of Sharjah has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Libraries Deanship of the United Arab Emirates. It was signed by Dr Salah Taher Al-Haj, Vice President for Community Affairs, and Dr Hamad bin Sarai, Director of the UAE University Libraries Deanship. The Memorandum of Understanding aims to establish joint cooperation between the two parties, to exchange and ensure rapid access to various sources of information that meet the needs of the students , academics, and researchers of the two universities in particular, and UAE society in general; to promote the development, collection, preservation, and dissemination of information as permitted by licences and copyright laws; and to enhance staff efficiency through joint on-job training and sharing of practical experience to provide professional support and skill development to library staff. Dr Salah Taher Al Haj expressed his pleasure at this fruitful collaboration, which is in the interest of the academic community of the two universities. Mohammed bin Rashid Library, which opens to the public on Jun 16 spans more than 54,000 square metres, with seven floors and nine thematic libraries. The Dh1 billion venue, which took six years to build, was officially inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday, and aims to be a cultural centre, joining Sharjah’s House of Wisdom in paving the way for libraries of the future. Mohammed bin Rashid Library in Dubai Creek is Dubai’s hottest new attraction – and there’s lots to explore. Back in 2016, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the foundation of Mohammed Bin Rashid Library. Five years in the making and it is opening to the public.  Costing a whopping Dhs 1billion to build this is one impressive building. Built in the shape of an open book sitting on top of a traditional wooden book rest, its architecture is like no other in the city. The library is spread over 54,000 sq m and can host 1,000 visitors at any one time. That’s a lot of book worms in one place. It allows us to offer chat reference service to the entire UAEU community and the general community (non-UAEU community) the creation of chat widgets that can be embedded in LibGuides, the library's website, and other web pages. When a staff member signs into LibChat, they can monitor, claim & reply to chats, and even keep an eye on incoming tickets. Chats can easily be transferred to other online staff members or departments, too, so you can ensure that patrons are matched with the right people to answer their questions.
