Resting spores of the freshwater diatoms Acanthoceras and Urosolenia

Abstract

Diatom resting spores are a widespread, but sometimes misconstrued component of siliceous microfossil assemblages. We illustrate and discuss resting spore morphology found in populations of Acanthoceras and Urosolenia , two widely distributed freshwater genera.
