Foundry Industry in Great Britain and some general trends of development

Abstract

The British foundry industry produces more than 4 million tons of castings, bulk of which are of iron. The range and size of products manufactured are indeed wide and varied to meet the demands of a highly diversified market for both consumer and capital goods. Modern innovations like shell moulding, precision investment process, carbon dioxide process, the Shaw process and the like have made sufficient impact for the production of castings in iron, steel, non-ferrous and special alloy steels. Equal importance is also given to scientific management and in this field considerable progress has been made in the post war period in perfecting market research, work study and work measurement, vocational training, job evaluation and standard costing to meet the demands of a growing competitive market.
