This work consists of a report on an experience carried out by a study group throughout the year
2001 involving Physical Education teachers, headmistresses, coordinators and primary’s teachers from the
Florianópolis Municipal Teaching Network. While the work, which was part of the preparation of these
professionals in service, was being developed, several topics related to Physical Education in children’s
upbringing were added. Through the participants reports on pedagogical practices we were able to examine
thoroughly some meanings ascribed to conceptions on Physical Education present in children’s upbringing,
as well as different aspects guiding the daily pedagogic work with young children pointing out problems to be
faced by those that deal in this field
