Some examples of column-to-column connection in precast concrete structures

Abstract

Connections between elements in precast concrete structures are of exceptional importance in all phases of construction and exploitation. With proper selection of connections, not only the desired way of transferring load is ensured, but also the simplicity of construction, accessibility for control and maintenance, fire resistance, durability, price etc. This paper is concerned with the principles of the design and construction of column-to-column connections, which can receive and transfer axial load and bending moment. Several types of these connections are shown, with indications on their advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, there is an explanation where the certain connections can be used, and where they should be avoided
