The aim of this essay is to show the changes that occurred in 20th Century, especially regarding to the categories of space and time. Thomas Mann's masterpiece Der Zauberberg includes all biggest issues running through this period. Above all, the novel shows a new way to describe time and space: time is no longer linear, as the one of work and production, but it looks like pure duration; space is that of liability of the body and its needs.\u
