The First Literary Evidence about the Belogradchik Uprising: Skene (1854) [In Bulgarian]

Abstract

The first evidence in literature for the Belogradchik uprising in 1850 can be found in James Henry Skene's book "The Danubian Principalities, the Frontier Lands of the Christian and the Turk", published in London in 1854 (there exists an earlier edition (1953) with a slight change in the book title). Skene visited Belogradchik several days after the suppression of the revolt and his observations and impressions are described in the book. It is strange that Skene's book has never been cited in the literature about the Belogradchik uprising
