These policy guidelines for the detection, management5, and control of antibiotic-resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhoea were established after careful deliberation by a group of experts and staff of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), The comments received after preliminary documents were circulated among a large group of public health professionals were also considered. Certain aspects of these guidelines should not be construed as rules, but rather as a source of guidance within the United States.
