Development and evaluation of a new model of minor burn care

Abstract

Many (25%) minor burn patients fail to attend hospital review. Investigation of a novel streamlined model of care found that selected patients who were assessed with a mailed survey (the Burn Specific Health Scale – Brief) had a similar outcome to those that received standard care. Psychometric evaluation of the scale demonstrated strong validity in this population for the first time. A predictive nomogram employed as a safety net in the model was developed and validated
