The theme of this article is the psychological aspects of the care provided to terminally ill patients. The following problem was investigated: “how does psychological assistance improve palliative care?”. The following hypothesis was considered “psychological assistance guarantees more comprehensiveness, resolution and humanization in care”. The general objective is "to understand the impact of psychological assistance in palliative care". The specific objectives are: “to understand palliative care”; "Describe the importance of the multidisciplinary team"; "Understand the importance of psychological assistance in palliative care". This work is important for an nursing professional due to the relevance of comprehensive assistance to the terminal patient; for science, it is relevant because it allows understanding the current palliative care; it adds to society because it encourages the construction of humanized care models. This is a qualitative theoretical research lasting six months.O tema deste artigo é aspectos psicológicos dos cuidados dispensados aos pacientes terminais. Investigou-se o seguinte problema: “como a assistência psicológica melhora os cuidados paliativos?”. Cogitou-se a seguinte hipótese “a assistência psicológica garante mais integralidade, resolutividade e humanização no atendimento”. O objetivo geral é “compreender o impacto da assistência psicológica no cuidado paliativo”. Os objetivos específicos são: “entender o cuidado paliativo”; “descrever a importância da equipe multidisciplinar”; “compreender a importância da assistência psicológica no cuidado paliativo”. Este trabalho é importante para o profissional de Enfermagem devido à relevância da assistência integral ao paciente terminal; para a ciência, é relevante por permitir entender a atual assistência paliativa; agrega à sociedade pelo fato de estimula a construção de modelos de cuidado humanizados.
