The theme of this article is analysis of the national health policy for the elderly - a literature review. The following problem was investigated: "In view of this situation, the question arises: Is the nursing team prepared to prevent, detect and manage violence against the elderly?". The following hypothesis was considered “Violence against the elderly who are the subject of procedures that the nursing team must take when realizing characteristics comparable to any type of violence suffered by the elderly. Neglect is the most common form of violence suffered by the elderly population. ”. The general objective is "to analyze the concept of detection and prevention of violence against the elderly, care and observation of nursing professionals who work in basic health units and hospitals". The specific objectives are: “To identify as the most common forms of violence perpetrated against elderly people admitted to the hospital's health department;”; “Analyze the opinion of the elderly about the violence experienced;”; "Analyze the view of professionals who attend to the violence experienced;". "Identify whether the team of health professionals is prepared to deal with this type of situation".O tema deste artigo é análise da política nacional de saúde do idoso: uma revisão de literatura. Investigou o seguinte problema: diante da situação, a equipe de enfermagem está preparada para prevenir, detectar e gerenciar a violência contra o idoso? Cogitou a seguinte hipótese: a violência contra idosos é objeto de procedimentos que a equipe de enfermagem deve tomar ao perceber características de qualquer tipo de violência sofrida pelo idoso. A negligência é a forma mais comum de violência sofrida pela população idosa. O objetivo geral é analisar o conceito de detecção e prevenção de violência contra os idosos, cuidados e observação dos profissionais de enfermagem que atuam em unidades básicas de saúde e hospitais. Os objetivos específicos são: identificar as formas de violência mais comuns perpetradas contra idosos internados na secretaria de saúde do hospital; analisar a opinião dos idosos sobre a violência vivenciada; analisar a visão dos profissionais que atendem a violência vivenciada; identificar se a equipe de profissionais da área da saúde está preparada para lidar com essa situação.
