art. 4º do Regulamento (CE) n.º 1606/2002, do Parlamento Europeu e do
A amostra do nosso estudo fica assim constituída pelas restantes
larga maioria, 86%, apresenta variações no intervalo de menos 20% a
20%.
The purpose of this paper is to highlight and analyse the main balance sheets
adjustments occurred in the current assets on 2004, resulting from the
transition of the Official Plan of Accounts (POC) to the International Accounting
Standards (IAS/IFRS). In other words, companies whose securities are publicly
traded and its consolidated accounts in accordance with Art. 4 of the
Regulation (EC) No 1606/2002, of the European Parliament and of the Council
of July, 19th, 2002.
From the 46 entities listed on the Website of the CMVM, 11 of them will not be
analysed, that is, 24 %, for several reasons, namely because their shares have
only been rated after the year of 2005, being therefore no basis for comparison.
This being the case, the sample of our study is constituted by the remaining not
financial entities, that is, 35. For a better understanding of what this sample
represents, the total turnover of the 35 companies represents about 27, 47 % of
the Portuguese Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the year 2005. Of these 27,
47 %, around 18, 34 % belongs to the 5 entities with larger turnover.
In a general way, the effects that occurred in the total Assets of the 35 entities
that compose our sample were not very significant; in an absolute way, the
Assets increased around 1, 40%, due to the alteration of the Portuguese
accounting standard to the international standard. This means that the Assets
of the sample increased 993.283 thousands of euros from 70.921.037 to
71.914.321 thousands of euros. In terms of dispersal of the impact, the wide
majority, 89 %, shows a percentage variation between a rage of minus 20 %
and 20%, which occurred in the total assets.
The Current Assets show a negative variation of 2, 58%. Since our sample is
constituted by 35 entities, 13 have suffered a positive variation, 37, 14%, 18 a
negative variation, 51, 43% and 4 did not show any variation, 11, 43%. The
wide majority, 86%, shows variations between minus 20% and 20%.
Among the various items that constitute the Current Assets we detach the
positive variation of 18, 17 % in the account Other Receivable Accounts, the
29, 50% increase of the account Cash and Cash Equivalents. The signed
initials Other Current Assets presented a negative variation of 40, 51 %. The
main reason is due to the derecognition of intangible assets, such as initial
costs, some deferred costs, like repair, training and advertising costs, which
must be recognised in income statement in which they occur.
At last, we verified that the ratios presented a positive impact of about 66,67 %,
when elaborated with the transition of POC to the international accounting
standards only in the Current Assets the impact changes to negative, about
55,56 % of the ratios elaborated
