Cultural values of accient houses in Southern Vietnam

Abstract

Ancient houses are considered as mirrors reflecting cultural values of the people. In any regions throughout Vietnam, there exist distinct ancient houses with their unique beauty. In any regions throughout Vietnam, there exist distinct ancient houses with their unique beauty. The article analyzes some typical cultural values of ancient houses in Southern Vietnam and explores difficulties and challenges in the preservation of them. Then suggestions on methods will be given to improve the preservation of such special historical cultural heritages and promote their cultural values. Some typical ancient houses chosen for the survey are the one in Thu Dau Mot, Binh Duong province, the one hundred- pillared ancient house in Long An – a representative of wooden- house structure in Vietnam, Binh Thuy ancient house in Can Tho province, and Huynh Thuy Le ancient house in Sa Dec, Dong Thap provinve – a mix of western and eastern architecture
