Oxide thickness and hydrogen absorption data in Zircaloy-2 subjected to Pt catalysts in hot pressurized water

Abstract

The data includes the microstructures of Zircaloy-2 in the as-received condition, after oxidation at 288 deg C, 90 bar for periods of 25, 60 and 150 days. Some tests were performed in hydrogen water chemistry conditions while others were performed in normal water chemistry conditions. The Pt catalysts were added on these surfaces to analyze the corrosion kinetics in these specimens. By using Focused ion beam studies of the cross-sectional cuts, we have developed the corrosion mechanisms and linked the corrosion rate to the hydrogen abosrption in these materials. The data will include: (1) Scanning Electron Microscopy pictures (2) Hydrogen absorption data (3) Oxide-metal interfaces as revealed by SEM (4) FIB cross-sectional cuts as revealed by SEM (5) Pt nanoparticles distributions on oxidized Zircaloy surface
