Automated sachet case packing machine

Abstract

This thesis deals with the design and fabrication of a machine that shall automate the case --packing of sachets into inner cartons in the coffee mix packaging line of Antonina Industrial Corporation. A number of case packing machines are currently available in the market. However most of these machines lack the flexibility and capability to handle thin and flat packages such as sachets and are limited to case packing large and thick pouches only. In the Philippine setting, coffee that is packed in sachets is very popular especially among the masses, thus, it is ideal to construct a machine that can efficiently and effectively automate the case packing of sachets. This thesis includes a study of the current manual case-packing process and the identification of key problem areas that hinder the productivity and cost-efficiency of the case-packing operation. This thesis also presents the different mechanical and electronic systems that are used to construct the machine. Test results that are likewise incorporated in this thesis show that the Automated Sachet Case-Packing Machine could meet the desired target output while performing at an acceptable level of manufacturing accuracy. With the introduction of the Automated Sachet Case Packing Machine to its coffee sachets case-packing production line, Antonina Industrial Corporation is presented with an opportunity to enhance the viability and the cost-efficiency of its manufacturing systems
