Copenhagen is subject to various planning conflicts in which the relationship between urban development and nature is at its core. Specifically, the plans to build Vejlands Kvarter in Amager Fælled have sparked immense and numerous protests. In this project we examine what these protests and points of conflict are rooted in and ask how we can understand the complexity concerning Vejlands Kvarter.To answer this question, we unite two theoretical strands, namely network theory and Neo- Marxist theory, and approach the conflict and its complexity in two ways. (1) The conflict as exhibiting numerous unique circumstances, which warrants exploring and; (2) the conflict as influenced by more general structural tendencies. We find that in order to understand the complexity around the conflict, we simultaneously have to understand both the internal and unique contingency of the arguments for and against the building project as well as their external, structural relations. This approach, which locates itself in between network and structural theories, we believe contributes to an enhanced and in-depth understanding of the complexity of conflicts
