This paper examines the causes of stress among 20-24 year olds in Denmark, where there has been observed a notable increase in stress related problems, due to the expansion of the accelerated society and the recent years ambition of accelerated and optimized schooling. The existing stress related research is widespread in both causation and consequences, why it was necessary to delve further into the issue and illuminate the societal reasons for increased stress in the chosen target group. Through a literature study, based on the research reports of VIVE and CEFU, the common stress factors of the society are clarified, in accordance with the existentialist thoughts of Jean-Paul Sartre and Anthony Giddens – and the sociology professor Hartmut Rosa. Furthermore, the causes and consequences of the increasing stress levels among the target group has been investigated through an interview of stress expert Jesper P. Rasmussen, alongside interviews of a group of nine young adults. The study concludes that an improvement in society’s consciousness regarding not only stressful factors of the social acceleration, but also the attention to preventing the undesirable development in the culture of young people, is essential to challenge the discourse between expectations and results. The implementation of an educational focus on digital expertise and personal responsibility for one's own behavior and wellbeing, will be a difficult and comprehensive process, but can be essential in preventing further stress in the target group
