This bachelor project acknowledges climate change from a historical perspective and concerns the lack of private investments to combat climate change in a Danish context, therefore it seeks to understand and analyse the regulatory and market promotion of private investments in green electricity solutions. Furthermore, former quantitative studies have suggested a progressive development in the profitability of investments in green electricity/energy over three decades. This study applies a pragmatic qualitative approach to this problem area in an attempt to fill the qualitative research gap. The authors of the paper have utilised interviews of relevant Danish green energy/electricity investment actors to gather data to develop knowledge in the area. The empirical data obtained was from the semi-structured interviews in the forms of elite and expert interviews along with secondary sources and the handout material from some primary sources. The pension fund actors interviewed as elite are: ATP Koncern, PFA Pension, MP Pension and Matter Pension. Furthermore, the utility company Ørsted was interviewed for a different perspective, as an actor in the Danish and the EU green energy/electricity investment markets. While Expert interviews were conducted with two Roskilde University professors to provide a larger perspective on the private investments’ role in the green transition of Denmark. The theory utilised in this paper is the green growth theory, which is back up by two arguments; green Keynesianism and comparative advantage. The theory was used in the 5th chapter to analyse the UN 2015 Paris Agreement, the EU energy strategies and roadmap, and the Danish Energiforliget from 2012 and the 2018 changes. In the 6th chapter, the theory also analysed the electricity/energy markets for Denmark and the EU as well as the predicted future markets in Denmark and globally. Furthermore, in the 7th chapter, the theory was utilised to analyse the actor’s perspective on the regulations and the market as well. The chapters in the paper functioned as tools to answer the paper’s research question: “How can the Danish government encourage Danish pension funds to invest in the green electricity market?”The project concludes that stable long-term targets and less short-term regulation by the Danish government will incentivise green investments by Danish pension funds.
