By departing from Ian Manners’ theory of Normative Power Europe, this project examines the theory on the case of the EU-Turkey Statement. Specifically, the aim of the project is to investigate whether the EU acted as a Normative Power in relation to the EU-Turkey Statement and, if not, how this does affect the explanatory power of the theory of Normative Power Europe. The project relies on a methodology based on a hypothetico-deductive model and the concept of falsification. Furthermore, an analytical framework provided by Tocci is applied. The analysis is based on three hypotheses on how the theory of Normative Power Europe would expect the EU to act in relation to the Statement. The aim is to falsify these hypotheses in order to examine the research question of the project. The project concludes that the EU has not acted as a Normative Power in relation to the EU-Turkey Statement. Furthermore,it is concluded that the theory of Normative Power Europe lacks sufficient explanatory power when explaining the EU’s external actions in general
