As Denmark experiences labour shortages, it needs to attract high skilled migrants (HSMs). Thus, it is necessary to understand highly skilled migration in more depth. Therefore, benefits and drawbacks of migration from the perspectives of HSMs and the economy/ companies in Denmark are examined in this paper. The results can help to assess existing migration policies and implement new ones, so that eventually HSMs can be addressed and attracted more effectively. In this paper, a two-phased mixed-methods design (Qual → quan) was conducted based on an inductive theoretical approach, including semi-structured expert interviews and a large-N survey. The results show that HSMs and companies benefit but also experience drawbacks from migration. While HSMs may benefit from migration if they migrate for reasons such as economic and family reasons, they also experience drawbacks if they do not have language skills and a network in Denmark. Companies can benefit economically when hiring HSMs, while bringing HSMs to Denmark is expensive. In both perspectives, but especially for HSMs, the Danish migration policy poses a major challenge. This paper concludes with recommendations to the Danish authorities on which policies they could change or implementto attract HSMs
