This project investigates how the new platform Thirdroom (TR) can contribute to the present IT solutions that facilitates the problem-oriented project work (POP) in Roskilde University (RUC). We are leaning on former experiences with groupwork oriented systems in RUC and on the research field of CSCW. We learned that the IT solutions offered by RUC often are decided po-litically within the leadership of RUC and that they have a principle for IT implementation say-ing that the users should adapt to the standardized solution that RUC is offering and not the other way around. TR on the other hand is a customized platform that tries to fill a void in the IT landscape providing the support for collaborative work. The students' needs and feedback are central to the development of the beta version of TR. Furthermore, we discuss a shift in RUCs vision for the investment of IT. In the project we involve three focus groups, consisting of eight students in total, to understand the actual needs in reference to IT solutions facilitating the POP practice. One of the findings are that the students use a variety of IT tools and systems and that it is hard to manage the combination of these tools. Where the students have many intern project tools for the actual collaboration, they have limited tools presenting the knowledge they possess after a long semester. As TR lies on an external server, in opposition to for exam-ple Microsoft Teams, there is a foundation to present your work and your abilities to the public. TR has a good potential for facilitating problem-oriented project work in collaboration with external agents such as corporations, organizations and municipalities
