Urban Land Use Planning (5th Edition). Chicago: University of Illinois Press.   Course Objectives  This course provides an opportunity for student to examine and understand existing land use planning methods and formats, develop land use planning skills, and gain experiences by examining the linkage between land use and transportation systems for certain urban areas.   A studio/project section is included in this course, which bring students out of the classroom and into a real local community to exam the linkage among land use, urban development, transportation and economic vitality.   By the end of this course, you should be able to   1. Articulate a clear vision of what constitutes an effective local land use plan and describe a range of possible plan formats.  2. Familiar with the history, intents, and purposes of comprehensive plans and the comprehensive planning process.  3. Specify the components of a complete land use planning program and know how the land use plan fits into the comprehensive plan.  4. Develop a dependable sense of judgment for assessing the validity, effectiveness, feasibility, strength, and weakness of various land use plan-making methods and plan formats.  Course Contents  1.
