Cílem práce je popsat současnou situaci informační vědy a knihovnictví v jednotlivých arabských zemích. Pro uvedení do situace v arabských zemích budou nejprve vybrány a popsány důležité historické momenty informační vědy a knihovnictví této oblasti. Dále budou zmapovány a charakterizovány oborové organizace, které v oblasti informační vědy a knihovnictví v těchto státech působí. Poté bude rozebrána situace v každé z dvaceti arabských zemí, kde budou zmapovány nejdůležitější knihovny a univerzity, na kterých se obor Informační věda a knihovnictví vyučuje, případně doplněny další pro obor a cíl práce významné skutečnosti. To introduce and depict common ground, important historical moments for information science and librarianship in Arab countries will be described. Afterwards, field organizations operating in these countries will be mapped and characterized. The main part of the thesis will analyse the situation in each of twenty Arab countries. The analysis will map the most important libraries and universities, where the field of information science and librarianship is studied. Where needed, other important facts and figures will be provided to enhance the analysis so that the aim of the thesis is fulfilled.
