de Saussure, 2006），恣意的ではない場合もある（語形と意味の非恣意的な連合; e.g., Ando et al., 2021; Kambara and Umemura, 2021）。語形と意味の恣意的な連合の例として，日本語の語形「りんご」は，果物のカテゴリに属し，赤や緑などの色で，丸い形をした視覚イメージ，甘酸っぱい味の味覚イメージや香りの嗅覚イメージと連合している一方で，英語の語形「apple」は日本語の語形「りんご」とほぼ同様の意味と連合しており，その関係に必然性はないと考えられている。一方で，語形と意味の非恣意的な連合の例として，オノマトペ，擬態語，擬音語などがある。言語学者や心理学者は，オノマトペ，擬態語，擬音語などの語形と意味の非恣意的な連合を総称して，音象徴語（sound symbolic words）と呼ぶ（Hamano, 1998）。音象徴語において，語形は直接特定の感覚情報や感情情報と連合していると考えられている（e.g., Ando et al., 2021; Kambara and Umemura, 2021）。以上のように，語形と意味の連合には，恣意的な連合と非恣意的な連合がある。このような語形と意味の連合に関する研究は，言語心理学研究により飛躍的に発展してきたが（松見, 1993, 1994; Paivio, 1971, 1986, 2007），まだ多くの点に検証の余地がある。また，語の意味が，他の心理的要因に与える影響についても不明な点が多い。（神原利宗*）２．目的本研究の目的は，語形と意味の連合や語の意味と心理的要因の関係について研究を行ない，それらの仕組みを明らかにすることであった。研究１では，研究代表者神原利宗助教，研究分担者梅村比丘准教授が，宗教語の意味と宗教性の関係について検証を行なった。研― 19―（共同研究プロジェクト報告書書式 R2）  究２では，神原利宗助教，研究協力者難波修史研究員，安部主晃助教，神原研究室大学院生楊宇涛，燕燕，学部生安藤実彩が母音と意味の非恣意的な連合に関する検証を行なった。（神原利宗*・梅村比丘・難波修史）Ⅱ 研究内容と成果１．研究Ⅰ：宗教語の言語心理学的属性と宗教性に関する研究言語と宗教には深いかかわりがある。例えば，日本の神道には言霊という語がある。言霊は，言葉に（神の）力が備わっていることを意味する（Hara, 2001）。また，聖書にも，はじめに言葉があり，言葉は神とともにあり，言葉は神であったとの記載がある。以上のように，言語は，宗教や宗教的実践において重要な役割を果たすと考えられる。宗教語は，抽象的な概念（e.g., 神），宗教的実践（e.g., 祈り），宗教的経験（e.g., 悟り）などを表す。宗教語以外の語と同様に，宗教語は，親密度，心像性，感情価，覚醒度などの言語心理学的属性を含む。語の親密度（familiarity）とは，提示された語に対する親しみの度合（i.e., 親しみがあるかどうか，に関する度合）を示す。語の心像性（imageability）とは，提示された語に対するイメージの度合（i.e., イメージできるかどうか，に関する度合）を示す。語の感情価（emotional valence; preference）とは，提示された語に対する感情の度合（i.e., 好きか嫌いか，に関する度合）を示す。語の覚醒度（arousal）とは，提示された語に対する感情の強さ（i.e., 穏やかか激しいか，に関する度合）を示す。これまで先行研究は，語の言語心理学的属性を参加者の主観的評価に基づいて測定してきた（e.g., Benjafield and Muckenheim, 1989）。語の使用はヒトの認知や社会的行動に多くの影響を与えることがわかっている（Preston and Ritter, 2013; Shariff et al., 2017; Williams et al. 2017）。また先行研究は，宗教性が個人の行動や態度に関係することを明らかにしてきた（Aghababaei et al., 2018; Bloodgood et al., 2008; Preston and Shin, 2017; Rosmarin et al., 2011; Scheepers et al., 2002）。一方で，語の言語心理学的属性が宗教性などの心理的要因とどのように関連しているのか，ということについては不明瞭な点があった。本研究の目的は，宗教語の言語心理学的属性（親密度，心像性，感情価，覚醒度）と宗教性の関連を検証することであった。語の親密度と心像性を測定するために，５件法のSemantic Differential（SD）法を用いた（Osgood et al., 1957）。語の感情価と覚醒度を測定するために，Self-Assessment Manikin（SAM）を使用した（Bradley and Lang 1994; Lang, 1980）。宗教性は，University of Bern の Stefan Huber 教授が開発した宗教性尺度（the Centrality of Religiosity Scale: CRS; see Huber and Huber, 2012）を使用した。宗教性尺度は，多くの国や地域で使用されてきた（e.g., Acket et al., 2020a; Ackert et al., 2020b; Ackert et al., 2020c）。宗教性尺度 CRS は，intellect，ideology，public practice，private practice，experience の５つの次元から成り立つ（Huber and Huber, 2012）。本研究を実施する時点で，宗教性尺度 CRS の日本語版がなかったことから，著者らが訳し，宗教性尺度 CRS の日本語版の信頼性についても検討を行なった。結果として，宗教語の親密度，心像性，感情価，覚醒度の尺度の信頼性と宗教性尺度 CRSの日本語版の信頼性を確認した上で，次の４点が明らかになった。１点目として，宗教語の親密度，感情価，覚醒度が，宗教性尺度の５つの次元（intellect，ideology，public practice，private practice，experience）全てと正相関することが明らかになった。２点目として，宗― 20―（共同研究プロジェクト報告書書式 R2）  教性が非常に高い人々は，宗教性が低い人よりも，宗教語に対する親密度や覚醒度が高いことが明らかになった。３点目として，宗教性が非常に高い人々は，宗教性が低い人々や宗教性が高い人々と比較して，宗教語に対する感情価が高いことが明らかになった。４点目として，宗教性が高い人々は，宗教性が低い人々よりも，宗教語に対する親密度が高いことがわかった。本研究の成果は，査読のある国際誌 Religions にて論文を発表した（Kambara et al., 2020）。（神原利宗*・梅村比丘・Michael Ackert・楊 宇涛・Stefan Huber）２．研究Ⅱ：日本語の母音と意味の非恣意的な連合に関する検証先行研究によって，特定の語形が特定の意味と非恣意的な連合を形成することがわかっている（e.g., ブーバ―キキ効果; e.g., Aryani et al., 2020; Köhler, 1947; Ramachandran and Hubbard 2001; Sidhu and Pexman, 2019; Styles and Gawne, 2017; Westbury, 2005）。また，記述された語形が丸みを帯びている場合，丸みのある図形と連合しやすい（Cuskley et al., 2017）。別の先行研究は，語に含まれる母音や子音が特定の感覚や感情と連合することを明らかにした（Hamano, 1998; Kambara and Umemura, 2021; Klink, 2000）。一方で，母音や子音が単体で提示された場合でも，特定の感覚情報や感情情報と連合するかどうか，に関しては不明な点が多かった。本研究の目的は，日本語の母音が特定の意味と連合しているかどうか，について検証を行なうことであった。参加者は，日本語母語話者であった。本研究は，広島大学大学院人間社会科学研究科倫理審査委員会の承諾を得ている。本研究では，刺激として，日本語の母音ア，イ，ウ，エ，オを使用した。日本語の５つの母音はすべてカタカナで表記した。評価項目は，先行研究と同様に，大きさ，距離，厚さ，広さ，重さ，高さ，深さ，感情価，覚醒度，親密度の 10 項目であった（神原他，2020; Namba and Kambara, 2020）。各評価項目に関して，参加者は５件法の SD 法（Osgood et al., 1957）によって評価した。調査において，参加者は A４サイズの質問用紙に書かれた各刺激を評価した。解析では，各評価項目に対して分散分析，多重比較検定と多重比較検定補正（Benjamini and Hochberg, 1995）を行なった。検証の結果，ア，ウ，オはイ，エと比べて大きさ，距離，厚さ，広さの評価項目の値が有意に高いことがわかった。また，アの感情価と親密度は，イ，ウ，エ，オよりも有意に高いことがわかった。本研究の結果は，日本語の母音単体でも特定の意味と連合していることを明らかにした。本研究の論文は，査読のある国際誌 Frontiers in Communication に採択された（Ando et al., 2021）。（安藤実彩・劉 芯佚・燕 燕・楊 宇涛・難波修史・安部主晃・神原利宗*）Ⅳ 研究の成果と今後の課題本研究の結果は，宗教語の意味の評価と宗教性の間に関連があることや，特定の母音が特定の意味と連合することを示唆している。今後の課題として，語形と意味の連合の形成に関する検証（e.g., Kambara et al., 2013;
