residuales.Universidad Libre - Facultad de ingeniería - Ingeniería ambientalCurrently, the treatment of wastewater is of vital importance considering that the
overexploitation of natural resources is generating serious environmental damage,
which leads to the decrease of water resources. For the reduction of these
environmental impacts there are different methods for the treatment of wastewater,
among the most used is the advanced primary treatment, which consists of the
coagulation/flocculation and sedimentation of particulate materials present in the
water. In this procedure chemically synthesized polyelectrolytes are used. For this
reason, in the present investigation domestic wastewater was treated from natural
coagulants extracted from the avocado seed and coffee mucilage, determining for
each extract the efficiency in terms of color reduction and turbidity in the advanced
primary treatment. The obtained results indicated that the coagulant obtained from
the avocado seed increases both the turbidity and the coloration, on the other hand
the coagulant based on the coffee mucilage allowed to remove 65.29% of the
turbidity, indicating that this extract can serve as a preliminary or auxiliary coagulant
in the primary wastewater treatment process
