Literature and music: Marabá (1849), by Gonçalves Dias, and its reflection in the homonymous symphonic poem (1898), by Escragnole Dória and Francisco Braga

Abstract

O objetivo principal do estudo é analisar o processo de transposição midiática da representação do lamento da índia mestiça, protagonista do poema literário Marabá (1849), de Gonçalves Dias (1823-1864), no poema sinfônico homônimo (1898), com libreto de Escragnole Dória e música de Francisco Braga. E, o secundário, é apresentar a relação da literatura com a música, que se consolidou na época do Romantismo europeu, no século XIX, com o surgimento desse tipo de poema: um gênero musical, que contempla um programa (matriz poética), e evoca, imita ou sugere elementos sonoros da natureza biológica, estabelecendo um diálogo entre as artes. A presente pesquisa, que destaca as imagens da indígena menosprezada em sua tribo, imersa em socializações subalternizadas durante a colonização portuguesa, será analisada sob a perspectiva da intermedialidade e da intertextualidade, de Rajewsky, e das intersecções entre a literatura e a música (Scher).  The main of the study is to analyze the media transposition process of the representation of the lament of mestizo india, protagonist of the literary poema Marabá (1849), by Gonçalves Dias (1823-1864), in the symphonic poem of the same 91898), with libretto by Escragnole Dória and music by Francisco Braga. And, the secondary, is to present the relationship between literature and music, which was consolidated at the time of European Romanticism, in the 19th century, with the appearance of this type of poem: a musical genre, which includes a program (poetic matrix), and evokes, imitates or suggests sound elements of biological nature, establishing a dialogue between the arts. The present research, which highlights the images of the neglected indigenous in her tribe, immersed in subordinate socializations during Portuguese colonization, will be analyzed from the perspective of Rajewsky´s intermediary and intertextuality and the intersections between literatura and music (Scher)
