IntroductionThe Andalusian eHealth Library (Biblioteca Virtual delSistema Sanitario Público de Andalucía, BV-SSPA) wasset up in 2006 under the Government Strategy ofKnowledge Management. Andalusia is one of thebiggest regions in Spain in terms of population andterritory, and of course, the number of public servicesoffered to professionals and citizens. As far as the PublicHealth System is concerned, it supports more than 8.5million inhabitants, and is staffed by 95,000 healthprofessionals who work for 43 hospitals, 1,500 primaryhealthcare centers and other research and trainingcenters. A big challenge for a Library: to provide this hugesystem with the best scientific resources and services.As well as the effort to centralize purchasing andcreating new services (see article published inDecember 2011 in the JEAHIL, Vol. 7(4)http://www.eahil.eu/journal/journal_2011_vol7_n4.pdf)it had the important objective of bringing together thehealth information librarians within a newly createdlibrary network to expand and promote its work. Thefeeling of belonging to this important project of theAndalusian Government was the engine whichmotivated the library network staff to activelyparticipate in the creation, development andconsolidation of the Andalusian eHealth Library. Most of these librarians had been working for the HealthSystem for more than 20 years. They worked at theircorresponding hospitals or centers without a realconnection with their colleagues and above all, withoutthe institutional support to work together and create thenecessary network to develop and exchange theirprofessional skills.The setting up of the Digital Library meant a majorchallenge and an extraordinary opportunity for them.From the point of view of the managing staff of the newlibrary, their commitment with the project and theinvolvement in the different work areas were crucial toobtain the desired results. Their experience in dealingwith end users and knowing their needs was a solidpillar for the construction of this new model.Therefore, they were organized in working groups andwere trained in accordance with the new necessaryrequirements. Another important part of this process wasthe annual library meeting that the Andalusian eHealthLibrary organized every year where all the new services,projects and devices were presented. The Digital Library places great importance on beingpart of national and international associations andincreasing participation at international conferences andcongresses, both of which constitute an importanttraining resource for our librarians. The Andalusian eHealth Library has activelytaken part in them since 2006. Last year, we had theopportunity of attending the Workshop organized inStockholm Trends for the future – Creating strategies tomeet challenges. Attending this workshop was such agood experience, due to its innovative and participativemethods and issues, encouraging everybody to exchangetheir experiences and knowledge, that we thought it wasa good example to copy and implement in theAndalusian Health Library Network.With the consent and endorsement of EAHIL weorganized our Workshop on new strategies and tools forthe eHealth Library last October 14-15, inspired by theone held in Stockholm, with the attendance of 34librarians and the financial support of OvidTechnologies. Andalusian health librarians worked on four topicsduring these two days: 1. responsible use of the e-Library: resources,services, access, content; 2. open access and the Andalusian Healthrepository; 3. the role of the librarian within the AndalusianHealth System: its integration within theorganization and the user service; 4. skills and capacities needed for professionalprofile development: a solution to every issue. Methods1. Responsible use of the e-Library: resources,services, access, content.This session was developed under the gallerymethod, divided into groups of six or sevenparticipants, several topics were discussedconcerning the use of the resources, services,access and content of the Digital Library:fundraising, ethical and legal use of theelectronic resources, quality plan and suppliers. 2. Open access and the Andalusian HealthRepository. For this session the opinionator triangle methodwas used, dividing the groups into three sectionswhich had to take one of three different positionsconcerning the open access and the AndalusianHealth Repository: in favor, against and neutral.The concerns of the Andalusian librarians interms of open access are peer review, contentquality, payment for publishing, copyright,requirements of funders and visibility. Regarding the Andalusian Health Repository themain issues are the different types of documentsand acceptance criteria, information retrieval,free services, legal restrictions and the newcompetences of the Andalusian Health Ministry.3. The role of the librarian within the AndalusianHealth System: its integration within theorganization and the user service.The environment change due to the creation ofthe central digital library meant for theAndalusian Health Librarians a new paradigm, asthey had to acquire new skills to work with thenew platform and cooperate within the network.The different roles of the librarian in the HealthSystem could be defined as follows: trainer,digital librarian, manager, clinical researchlibrarian, marketing and public relationsmanager; these were discussed using the methodKnowledge Cafe.4. Skills and capacities needed for professionalprofile development: a solution to every issue.Seven years after the setting up of the AndalusianeHealth Library the time had arrived to reflect onthe performance of the involved parties, a sessionof brainstorming using the method Magic Circlewas really useful in order to find out what is thereal role as librarians, and to answer questionssuch as: a) How do we fulfill our duties as librariansof the Andalusian eHealth Library?Workshop on new strategies and tools for the eHealth libraryFig. 1. Course participantsb) What difficulties do we face in our dailywork? c) Are we free to develop our performance aslibrarians or do we have to carry out othertasks?Conclusions The management of the Library in terms ofsubscriptions, service development and budgetary issuesis carried out at the Central Unit of the AndalusianeHealth Library and its staff have the appropriate skillsto deal with publishers, to manage the general budget, tocreate technological applications and to be in charge ofthe platform maintenance and updating. Neverthelesscontact with the end user and daily work at hospitals,training or research centers is the way our library has tointegrate itself into the system, and is the means to havefeedback on our work. This is the reason the librarynetwork is so important in this project.The conclusions of this meeting were mainly focused onmeasures such as:  the creation of a quality plan for the librarynetwork; the establishment of a procedure to communicateuser needs in terms of resources; the implementation of a procedure to participatein research groups as librarians of the HealthSystem and contribute to improve the scientificproduction of the organizations, givinginformation about where to publish, open accessresources and carry out the scientific productionstudies; the availability of the terms of use for everyresource to be sure that our users are aware of theimportance of fulfilling the legal requirements;  the development of a professional profile tocontribute to our careers; the creation of an official training plan forlibrarians; the development of a training plan for users inorder to make them more and more autonomous;  the contribution to the use and promotion of ourInstitutional Repository in order to gather mostof the scientific production of the Health System,as one of the best ways of giving visibility to theAndalusian Healthcare professional work,facilitating knowledge management andexperience transfer within the Andalusian PublicHealth System;  the guarantee of the best interaction with our endusers at our workplaces but also through oursocial media, according to the user profile.Summarizing, the importance of having these kinds ofsessions and developing working groups in order tocreate common policies to deal with the daily tasks ofthe librarians under the umbrella of the AndalusianHealth Library was highlighted.
