El propòsit d’aquest article és fer una contribució empírica a la reconstrucció dels salaris femenins en el sector agrícola en l’època preindustrial. Malgrat la complexitat que implica la confecció de les sèries salarials, particularment les femenines, és imprescindible continuar emprant-les i millorant-les per tal de copsar el funcionament social i econòmic de les societats agràries preindustrials. L’estudi se centra en l’illa de Mallorca al segle XVII, on s’havia desenvolupat una important especialització oleícola a partir de grans explotacions que exportaven els seus excedents al mercat internacional. Aquestes explotacions contractavenmà d’obra femenina i infantil per a la recollida de l’oliva. Aquesta mà d’obra femenina es convertí en un factor clau en la reproducció d’aquest sistema agrari. Per tant, el coneixement de l’evolució dels seus salaris constitueix un element cabdal per capir tant l’evolució dels costos d’explotació dels terratinents i arrendataris, com la importància dels salaris en els ingressos i nivells de vida de les famílies pageses.The purpose of this article is to make an empirical contribution to the reconstruction of female wages in the pre-industrial agricultural sector. Despite the complexity involved in the construction of wage-series, particularly those of women’s wages, it is worthy continuing using and improving them in order to understand the social and economic functioning of pre-industrial agrarian societies. The study focus on the island of Majorca where an important olive oil specialization through large farms took place along the 17th century exporting its surplus to the international market. Female and child labour were hired in those farms to pick olives, which became a key factor in the reproduction of this agricultural system. For these reasons, the knowledge of the evolution of wages is a crucial element in capturing the evolution of the exploitation expenses, as well as the importance of wages in the income and living standards of agricultural families
