El neobarroc, afí al terme «postmodern» en molts aspectes, substitueix un període d’ordre, homogeni, per un heterogeni, sense ideologia predominant. La idea del barroc com una categoria estètica aplicable a algunes manifestacions culturals contemporànies ja havia estat desenvolupada als anys vuitanta en escrits de Calabrese i Deleuze, entre d’altres. Observem com l’estètica barroca es troba present al cinema de les darreres dècades, amb especial incidència en l’obra de cineastes britànics (Ken Russell, Peter Greenaway, Derek Jarman, Sally Potter).Neo-Baroque is close to the term «postmodernism» in many features: it replaces a period of order and homogeneity with a heterogeneous one which has no prevalent ideology.The concept of Baroque, as an aesthetic category applicable to some contemporary cultural trends, was expounded in the eighties by art theorists like Deleuze and Calabrese.The Baroque aesthetic has also featured in the cinema of the last few decades, especially in the works of the British filmmakers: Ken Russell, Peter Greenaway, Derek Jarman, and Sally Potter
