  xiii Redaksioneel Professor Annette Combrink kan tereg as ‘n “eerste vrou” beskou word. Op vele komitees, kommissies en verenigings is/was sy die eerste dame in die geskiedenis wat as daardie funksionaris dien – so ook die eerste vroulike Dekaan en Rektor van die Potchefstroomkampus van die Noordwes-Universiteit in Potchefstroom. Sy was ook die eerste vrou aan die stuur van Koers. Koers het in sy bestaan van 70 jaar agt redakteurs gehad, waarvan Annette Combrink die langsdienende redakteur was – 21 jaar! Haar voorgangers was: • 1936-1954: J. Chris Coetzee; • 1954-1955: H.G. Stoker; • 1955-1973: W.N. Coetzee; • 1974-1976: E.J. Smit; • 1977-1980: D.H. Steenberg; • 1981-1983: P.J.J.S. Potgieter en  • 1983-2004:  A.L. Combrink.  Annette Combrink is nie slegs alombekend as taalkundige nie, maar ook vir haar werk ten opsigte van die etiek en dan veral die Christelike etiek en Christelike wetenskapsbeoefening. Tans is sy ook die ondervoorsitter van die International Institute for Development and Ethics. As redakteur van Koers het sy ‘n baie groot invloed uitgeoefen op die kwaliteit van die artikels en die bevordering van prinsipieelbegronde, vakfilosofiese navorsing, veral Christelike begronde navorsing. Hierdie feit kan baie duidelik gesien word as na die artikels oor die laaste 21 jaar gekyk word. Hierin is sy natuurlik bygestaan deur die keurders se waardevolle en opbouende kommentaar op die artikels wat voorgelê is. Die Koersredaksie is baie dankbaar dat sommige van hierdie keurders en skrywers, wat oor baie jare so ‘n positiewe bydrae tot Koers gemaak het, bereid was om artikels voor te lê vir keuring vir publikasie in hierdie huldigingsnommer. Dit is ook iets besonders om uit so ‘n wye verskeiden-heid vakdissiplines artikels in hierdie Koersnommer te kan plaas. As redakteur van Koers het dit ook beteken dat Annette Combrink die voorsitter van die Buro vir Wetenskaplike Tydskrifte was. Hierdie Buro is verantwoordelik vir die administrasie van die artikelkeuringsproses, die saamstel, set en proeflees, drukgereedmaak en verspreiding van Koers, Literator, In die Skriflig en Woord en Daad. Sy was die dryfkrag agter die stigting van die Buro en haar ywer oor baie jare het die voortbestaan van die Buro verseker. As rektor is sy nog net so passievol oor die bevordering van prinsipieelbegronde, vakfilosofiese navorsing en Koers en die Buro vir Wetenskaplike Tydskrifte in die besonder. Furthermore, she was also the first female editor-in-chief of Koers. Of the eight editors, in the 70 years of Koers’ existence, Annette Combrink served 21 years! Her predecessors were: • 1936-1954: J. Chris Coetzee; • 1954-1955: H.G. Stoker; • 1955-1973: W.N. Coetzee; • 1974-1976: E.J. Smit; • 1977-1980: D.H. Steenberg; • 1981-1983: P.J.J.S. Potgieter and  • 1983-2004:  A.L. Combrink. Not only is Annette Combrink known as linguist, but also for her work in the ethics, especially the Christian ethics as well as Christian scholarly practice. She is also currently the vice-chairperson of the International Institute for Development and Ethics. As editor-in-chief, she had an enormous influence on the quality of the articles submitted and she is a true patron of fundamentally based, subject-philosophical research, but espescially Christian based research. This is abundantly clear when one looks at the articles over the past 21 years. Of course she was assisted by the referees’ valuable and constructive comments on the articles submitted. The Editorial Board of Koers is very grateful to some of the referees and authors which, over many years made such a positive contribution to Koers, who were willing to submit articles for refereeing for publication in this edition. It is also significant to be able to publish articles out of such a variety of subject disciplines in this special Koers edition. As editor of Koers it also meant that Annette Combrink was the Chairperson of the Buro for Sholarly Journals. This Buro is responsible for the administration of the refreeing process of articles, the assembling, set and preparation for publishing and distributing of Koers, Literator, In die Skriflig and Woord en Daad. She was the driving force behind the establishment of the Buro and her enthusiasm over many years secured the ascertained existance of the Buro. As Rector she is still passionate about the promotion of fundamentally based, subject-philosophical research, Koers and the Buro for Scholarly Journals in particular.
