Abstract

The article addresses the problem of the changing image of Upper Silesia in Polish cinema. The guiding thought is the attitude of contemporary directors of work related to Silesia to the regional film imaginarium developed by the masters: Kazimierz Kutz, Janusz Kidawa, Lech Majewski and others. The context of the analysis are the anthropological and social transformations of the cultural space of the region, resulting from the economic and political transformation and different strategies of referring to the tradition and poetics of regional cinema reflected in the films of contemporary filmmakers. The research material is made up of feature films of the last decade that belong to the mainstream cinema
