She would like the decision in writing.     Chair Meek also mentioned that Bart Finzel recently attended a presentation on new tenure procedures.  These procedures include a post‐tenure review for associate professors, taking place every four years.  The review will focus on what steps the associate is taking to become a full professor.  This spring all associate professors will meet with Chair Meek for their review.  Roland Guyotte asked a question to be passed on to Bart Finzel: Was the associate professor review passed by the senate?  His reasoning was that it didn’t seem like a typical administrative action, as it doesn’t single out a category or define a time frame. A representative from the Humanities Division recently came to Social Science asking about our Grievance Policy, and we don’t have one, primarily because we’ve never had a grievance.  Chair Meek suggested that the Policy Committee look into creating such a policy.  II.  Approval of Minutes‐October 4th, 2011 Sherri Breen moved to approve the minutes, and Joe Beaver seconded.  The minutes were approved by unanimous vote.  III. History Curriculum Approval Chair Meek asked Kent Blansett to take the floor to discuss the creation of Hist 1701, which is essentially the equivalent of his current course Hist 1813, except that 1813 is an IC course.  Blansett explained that upperclassmen had expressed an interest in taking a world indigenous history course, and that Hist 1701 will enable them to do so.  The content of the two courses will be a slightly different as one is an IC course, but both will be 1000 level courses with equivalent content.  Chair Meek explained that this was a new model for UMM and had only been done once before in Philosophy and that the intent was to offer the courses every other year.    Jeff Ratliff‐Crain asked how the Curriculum Committee dealt with the different Gen. Ed. designators for Hist 1813 and 1701.  He explained that students would need a clarification that 1813 won’t cover their history credit, even though it’s the same course as 1701.  Chair Meek said that she would check with the Curriculum Committee.  Guyotte made a motion to approve Hist 1813 and 1701, and the motion was passed unanimously.  Chair Meek proposed that she go through the rest of the course proposals one by one, and that unless anyone had questions or concerns, the division could then make a block vote to approve all courses.  Her suggestion was agreed on by the division. Hist 1815, 1816, and 2451 were approved in this manner.  IV.  Anthropology Curriculum Proposals Anth 1812, 2202, 2605, and 3352 were approved.  V.  Sociology Curriculum Proposal Soc 1813 was approved.  VI. IS Curriculum Proposals IS 1807 and 1808 were also approved.  Marynel Ryan Van Zee moved to approve all the above courses, and Ratliff‐Crain seconded.  A unanimous vote approved Hist 1815, 1816, 2451; Anth 1812, 2202, 2605, 3352; Soc 1813; and IS 1807, 1808.  The meeting was adjourned at 5:30.  Minutes respectfully submitted by Holly Gruntner, Morris Student Administrative Fellow
