This thesis examines the subject of adaption to climate change in the municipality of Middelfart including the project area ‘Klimabyen’ where the vision is to integrate adaption to climate change with urban development. The thesis examines the historical, topographical, hydrographical and demographical conditions for solving the problems related to extreme amounts of precipitation. Furthermore it analyses the relation of power between the stakeholders involved since they all have power to influence the sense of place. To do so David Harvey’s theory about urban entrepreneurial governance is used alongside Jon Anderson’s theory about traces, places, power and sense of place. In addition we analyze how and why the municipality of Middelfart uses ‘KlimaByen’ as a strategy of place branding. The research includes quantitative as well as qualitative methods, among these a semi structured elite interview, survey interviews and statistic data.
