Zindel from EuroRelief.Getting Creative with Lynn Creative Services6Lynn Creative Services Offers Marketing Materials and Hands-on Experience for StudentsiPulse Bio EDITIONtable ofcontentsCollege of Communication & Design2went to Lesbos, Greece and volunteering at a refugee camp that is overflowing with people who must endure horrid living conditions. “I have always felt that it is not fair that I have all these opportunities, but so many people in the world do not have these opportunities,” said Zijlstra.Having grown up in the Netherlands and studied in Amsterdam before coming to Lynn, Zijlstra realized that she had lived a life with luxuries that many do not have. The experience of serving in the camp truly opened her eyes and grew her passion for helping those in need worldwide. While she was in the camp, she witnessed over twenty thousand people live in poor conditions, massive fires, flooding and other terrible things, which encouraged her to find a way to ease the refugees suffering. “I could not believe that people had to live in those kinds of conditions, such misery, and it really touched me,” said Zijlstra. While Zijlstra lived among refugees from nations around the world, such as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, and Congo, she found a perfect unifier and distraction for them in sports. She organized volleyball and soccer games with the camp people, which brought joy and friendship to the people who often did not have much reason to smile. Zijlstra could not give any of the refugees a new life, but she showed up in their lives and helped them cope with their unfortunate circumstances, which made them feel loved and important.  “In the camp, it is hard because every different nationality has to deal with each other, but when they play sports… it does not matter,” said Zijlstra. Born and raised in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, Golchha grew up in a developed and business-oriented home environment. At a young age, he moved from a Nepali school to an American school, which played a critical role in his perception about development.“My family was always business-oriented, starting from my grandfather, uncle and dad. They have been the biggest influence in the way I see things,” said Golchha. “I grew up in a joint family, so there were always conversations at the table...about new investments and opportunities. Nowadays, the business is going and has grown a lot, but I had to stop for a bit because I moved to the U.S to start college.”Golchha found out about Lynn through a friend and discovered it was the best fit for him. After he graduates, Golchha would like to go back to his home country to join the family business, and later start his own venture.“After I go back, I want to join my brother in the family company, contribute...what I have learned here and add more things,” said Golchha. “Also, I would like to start my own commercial real estate venture where I can rent properties to restaurants and shops back in Nepal. I think I can learn a lot from other entrepreneurs in Boca, take all the learnings back home and apply them.” One of Golchha’s biggest dreams is to take over the family business so his father can retire as soon as possible and relax at home. During his time at Lynn, Ryder has earned All-South academic team honors, Dean’s List honors and is part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He has also been involved in iPulse before making appearances as a news anchor. Ryder hopes to complete his undergraduate degree and pursue graduate school. Ferdinando Benetton Staff Writer  Ferdinando Benetton is a sophomore majoring in communication and public relations. He was born and raised in Treviso, Italy. Benetton finished high school in Andover, where he played football for the high school varsity team, studied for one year and then enrolled at Lynn University. Hill is originally from El Salvador, which has led her to advocate for social justice and women’s rights. She is excited to be a part of the iPulse team this semester. Xamantha Del Valle Staff Writer Xamantha Del Valle is a junior studying multimedia journalism with a minor in photography. When she is not outside with her camera, she can be found inside painting or reading poetry. Valle is from West Palm Beach and has lived there all her life. She is a frequent visitor to the beach where she loves to bring her husky. The Best At-Home Workouts  Lynn students give insight into their favorite at-home workouts for those who do not have access to practical gym equipment or generally dislike working out in a gym. Not every student is comfortable with or able to go to the gym on a regular basis, so these students discovered their own workout regimens that don’t require going to a gym building. “I can’t and have never gone to the gym alone,” said Bayley Tracy. “Someone always comes up to me or stares.”Some of the most practical at-home workouts focus on the legs and abdomen since no weights or machines are required to work those areas. With the absence of equipment, bodyweight exercises have the same effect as using standard gym machines. “My favorite area to workout is my legs,” said Tracy. “I watch videos that I find online to do on my bedroom floor.”Many students find themselves working out in areas that lack space for movement, such as dorms and apartments. This is when bodyweight, at-home exercises come in the handiest since they require little to no tools, and the only space needed is the size of one’s own body. “I do these workouts on my bedroom floor,” said Tracy. “This lets me have enough space to exercise at home.”At-home workouts vary for everyone. Some enjoy yoga, while others love a hard abdominal burner workout. Photo/Lightfield Studios6Commuting students at Lynn University are feeling disconnected from campus as a result of the separation between living on and off campus. One of the best things to experience at college is the newfound community and experiences to share across campus. Between clubs, sports and the other various activities, there is so much to enjoy about the college life. However, for students who commute, this connection to campus life can be lost. When it comes to partaking in campus events, there are a lot of factors to consider for commuters. One of the larger issues is the traffic and parking situation. This entails having to plan the day accordingly. Students often have to wake up early to ensure they have a parking space before it gets too crowded. “I have to get up extra early, around 6:20 [a.m.] because I have to leave earlier due to traffic,” said Daniella Espinoza, junior. “I live about 30 minutes away, but I have to leave at least 45 minutes before my 8 a.m. [class] to avoid getting stuck in traffic.” How to Reconnect as A Commutercommuting students feel disconnected from Lynn campusBy Xamantha Del ValleStaff Writer Typical everyday activities, such as eating, can also become a contributing factor to feeling disconnected. Most commuting students do not have a meal plan and will either have to go hungry, purchase a meal or bring their own food. The cafeteria is a common area for students to come spend time with their friends. “Commuting does affect my relationship with friends,” said Espinoza. “In a way, I would say I’m disconnected, mostly because I don’t hang out at the caf or at the dorms.”   However, as living on campus is not for everyone, there can be benefits to coming back and forth. “Even though it is more convenient to stay on campus, I don’t regret it,” said Espinoza. “As a person who likes my personal space, I don’t think I would enjoy staying on campus.” Maintaining a good relationship with campus can be difficult when students are not living on it. Joining clubs, going to athletic events and even supporting fellow classmates are great ways to stay active and involved. Del Valle.7Key West is among the top tourist destinations in the U.S., providing a vibrant nightlife, historic tours, colorful architecture and exquisite seafood. One of the most popular attractions is Ernest Hemingway’s estate, built in a Spanish Colonial style in 1851, where the author wrote many of his famous poems and novels. Today, it is a museum that offers visitors a close look at his life, including all the furniture he owned and the popular writing room with his typewriters. “Hemingway was a fascinating person who lived life on his own terms. The home is well preserved, and the tour guide really knew his stuff. Photo/Sports Illustrated. Last week, MLB owners and players in the MLBPA met in Orlando, Florida, to continue discussing the issue of wages and rules in hopes of getting the season started on time. The MLB owners imposed a lockout on Dec 2, 2021. The lockout has been in effect since and little to no positive progress has been made. Both sides have made statements as to what they would like in order for the season to continue. The owners want to expand the playoffs by adding more games to each series as well as they want to place advertisements on the players jerseys and helmets during games. The players will only agree to those terms if “significant adjustments” are made to the economics for players. In a recent Twitter post, All-star Mets pitcher Max Scherzer released this statement addressing his standing on the lockout. “We want a systems where threshold and penalties don’t function as caps, allows younger players to realized more of their market value, makes service time manipulation a thing of the past, and eliminate tanking as a winning strategy.” Other players have also voiced their opinions on various social media accounts and a large majority of the players agree with the list of things Scherzer tweeted out. Passionate baseball fans around the USA also agree with the players and want the lockout to end so they can see their favorite teams and players back on the field. MLB in complete lockout for first time since 1990The debate between players and owners over wages and rules continues with Spring Training only a week awayBy JT ScottStaff Writer“I hope it ends soon,” said Kyle Verb, sophomore. “I was really looking forward to watching the Cubs play this year.” Other fans like Jonah Cole think that this lockout was inevitable and that it was necessary in order for the game of baseball to continue. “I think it’s on the owners,” said Jonah Cole, freshman. “They clearly want more money, but they have to come to an agreement here soon.” The MLBPA and owners will continue to meet throughout the month and hopefully will reach a solution to the large number of problems they currently have in their league. Spring Training is scheduled to start Feb. 26, but with the lockout still in place, that date is to be determined. Baseball fans around the world will have to wait to see if they get to watch their favorite teams this year.
