Branko Ružić jedan je od najistaknutijih hrvatskih kipara 20. stoljeća. Iako je radio u različitim materijalima, njegovo kiparstvo ponajviše vezujemo uz drvo u kojem je ostvario velik i značajan opus. Branko Ružić djelovanje je započeo pedesetih godina kao jedan od predstavnika umjetničke struje koja je nastojala afirmirati modernističku praksu, ali i zadržati vezu s lokalnom tradicijom. Njegovo se kiparstvo približava strujama europskog modernizma te se radi o kiparstvu pročišćene i reducirane forme, pune mase, naglašene arhitekturalnosti, ali i rustične, nedovršene obrade. Drvo mu je omogućilo stvaranje oduzimanjem od cjeline i bilo je dobar medij za njegove krupne volumene i geometrijske forme. Posebno su ga zanimale umnožene forme i skupine tako da je u velikom broju skulptura obradio teme grupa i nizova. Primjetna je tematska širina, kao i ambivalentnost značenja njegovih radova. Korpus drvenih radova čini znatan dio njegova opusa, a kritika ga visoko vrednuje.Branko Ružić is one of the most prominent Croatian sculptors of the 20th century. Although he used various materials, his sculpture is mostly associated with wood, which he used to create his large and significant oeuvre. He began his work in the 1950s as one of the representatives of the artistic movement that sought to affirm modernist practices, but also to keep the connection with the local tradition. His sculpture corresponds to the movements of European modernism and his sculptures are examples of purified and reduced forms, full masses, accentuated architectural, but rustic, unfinished processing. Wood as a material allowed him to create by deducting from the whole and it was a good medium for his large volumes and geometric shapes. He was particularly interested in the multiplication of forms and groups, so he dealt with themes of groups and sequences in many of his sculptures. The scope of his themes was especially noteworthy, as well as the ambivalence in the meaning of his works.
