Cilj ovoga diplomskoga rada je prikazati postupak digitalizacije herbarijske zbirke orhideja Hrvatskog herbarija (Herbarium croaticum) Botaničkog zavoda Prirodoslovno-matematičkog fakulteta u Zagrebu. Za razliku od digitalizacije drugih materijala, ovdje se radi o specifičnom načinu digitalizacije, jer uključuje krhke herbarijske primjerke. U radu se opisuje proces pripreme materijala za digitalizaciju, digitalizacija herbarijskih listova te unos metapodataka u bazu podataka i georeferenciranje. U opis su uključeni i korišteni alati i programi, te poseban skener korišten pri digitalizaciji herbarijskih primjeraka. Svrha rada je prikazati kako se digitalizacija ovakvih materijala razlikuje od ostalih te koje su njezine specifične karakteristike. Osim toga, u radu se navode i neki primjeri digitalizacije herbarija u svijetu. Rad prikazuje što je sve potrebno za digitalizaciju ovakve vrste materijala te koliko vremena je potrebno za taj proces. Cilj ovoga rada je također pomoći u daljnjoj digitalizaciji herbarijskih primjeraka Botaničkoga zavoda prikazujući sve korake procesa, ali i procjenu vremena potrebnoga za digitalizaciju jednog herbarijskog lista.The aim of this thesis is to present the digitization process of the herbarium orchids collection of the Croatian herbarium (Herbarium croaticum) of the Botanical Institute of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb. Unlike the digitization of other materials, here is the specific mode of digitization because it includes fragile herbarium specimens. This paper describes the process of preparing material for digitization, digitization of herbarium sheets, and entering metadata into a database and georeferencing. The description includes the application and used tools, and a special scanner used for digitization of herbarium specimens. The purpose of the paper is to show that the digitization of such materials differs from others and what are its specific characteristics. In addition, some examples of digitization of herbarium in the world are mentioned. The paper shows what is needed to digitize this kind of material and how much time this process takes. The aim of this paper is also to help digitize herbarium specimens of the Botanical Institute by presenting all the steps of the process, as well as estimating the time needed to digitize a herbarium sheet
