It aims to analyze the skills of reference librarians in the care of deaf users in the Central Library of the Federal University of Paraíba. that university libraries should seek the improvement of their services and the restructuring and expansion of their functions to guarantee a quality service to the university community. Based on the analysis of the data collected through a semistructured interview, it was possible to perceive that the referral service of this institution has sought to offer training and training for reference librarians in order to better serve users with hearing impairment. Considering that the competences of the librarian are essential for the institution to offer a quality service and that the improvement of the services depends on the professional performance of the librarian in the service of reference it was verified that the librarians do not have any training in Libras being accordingly This training and training is being offered by the institution.Objetiva analisar as competências dos bibliotecários de referência no atendimento aos usuários surdos na Biblioteca Central da Universidade Federal da Paraíba. As bibliotecas universitárias devem buscar a melhoria de seus serviços e a reestruturação e expansão de suas funções para garantia de um atendimento de qualidade a comunidade universitária. A partir da análise dos dados coletados por meio de um questionário, foi possível perceber que o serviço de referência dessa instituição vem buscando oferecer capacitação e treinamento para os bibliotecários de referência, tendo em vista melhorar o atendimento aos usuários com deficiência auditiva. Considerando-se que as competências do bibliotecário são essenciais para que a instituição ofereça um serviço de qualidade, e que a melhoria dos serviços depende da atuação do profissional bibliotecário no serviço de referência, constatou-se que os bibliotecários não possuem nenhuma formação em Libras, sendo nesse sentido necessária essa capacitação e treinamento que vem sendo oferecido pela instituição
