U radu se obrađuju problemi malih općina u svjetlu nove regulacije lokalne samouprave. Jedinice lokalne samouprave u Republici Hrvatskoj su općine i gradove, a osobit problem predstavlja značajan nesrazmjer u veličini pojedinih jedinica lokalne samouprave što čini sustav lokalne samouprave neracionalnim i neučinkovitim. Rezultati rada ukazuju na činjenicu da se manjkavosti i problemi malih općina u Republici Hrvatskoj mogu značajno umanjiti ulaganjem u gospodarski razvoj malih općina putem EU fondova kao i korištenjem međuopćinske suradnje s ciljem podizanja efikasnosti rada u malim općinama.This final paper discusses the problems of small municipalities in the light of the new regulation of local government. Local governments in Croatia are municipalities and cities; a special problem is a significant size disparity of certain units of local government that makes local government system irrational and ineffective. Research results suggest that the shortcomings and problems of small municipalities in the Republic of Croatia can be significantly reduced by investment in the economic development of small municipalities through EU funds as well as through the concept of inter-municipal cooperation in order to raise the efficiency of the small municipalities
