The singular behavior of conformal interactions is examined within a
comparative analysis of renormalization frameworks. The effective
approach--inspired by the effective-field theory program--and its connection
with the core framework are highlighted. Applications include black-hole
thermodynamics, molecular dipole-bound anions, the Efimov effect, and various
regimes of QED.Comment: 17 pages. Expanded, with additional emphasis in terms of the
effective-field theory program. To be published in Phys. Lett.
